Monica Miller Collison specializes in insurance regulatory law, administrative law, business and corporate law, nonprofit law, estate planning services, transactional law and government relations. Her legal background and experience spans over two decades of helping negotiate and navigate insurance companies and corporations through a variety of complex, business issues and a wide variety of regulatory compliance issues. Prior to joining Leonard Long & Cassil, Monica served as CEO, President and General Counsel of Oklahoma’s largest domestic insurance company as well as one of the state’s most tenured, legacy insurance companies. She began her career in the insurance industry while in law school, where she worked as a legal intern at the Oklahoma Insurance Department in their legal department. Upon graduation from law school, Monica worked as an associate specializing in insurance and worker’s compensation defense, where she litigated on behalf of insurance companies as well as consumers. Monica has spent countless hours representing challenged insurance companies, producers and consumers, while helping her clients manage their regulatory, business and legal challenges before state and federal regulatory bodies. Monica has also navigated the political and legislative landscape on behalf of her clients, having lobbied on behalf of the state’s largest domestic insurance carrier for many years while also serving as in-house, corporate counsel. Monica has been heavily engaged in Oklahoma agriculture her entire life, which included leadership roles in the state’s largest agriculture organization where she served as a State FFA Officer while attending college at OSU. She began her early career in association and nonprofit work, where she lobbied on behalf of farmers and ranchers at the state and federal level and ultimately created a foundation to help feed and clothe impoverished children, while working in that space. Monica’s interest and desire to serve her community, state and country began at a young age, when she worked for Senator Don Nickles in Washington D.C., while still attending college at OSU. In this role, she was able to work on the 1996 Farm Bill, transportation and Native American issues impacting Oklahomans at the federal level. Monica continues her love for rural Oklahoma and the agriculture arena and always sought a path back to her rural OK roots. She is grateful to own and operate her family’s farming operation, now BlackOak Farms and Events, along with her husband. BlackOak Farms is a first-class sporting operation and event destination. This operation allows Monica to showcase her hometown and family’s farming legacy in the historical region of Oklahoma and North Texas in the Texhoma and Red River Valley. Monica is a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association and the Oklahoma County Bar Association. In addition to her legal and regulatory work, Monica’s heart and concern for society’s most vulnerable- neglected and deprived children- engaged Monica in pro bono and community service work in a variety of capacities including CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) in her early legal career. She also volunteered her time with Big Brothers and Sisters as well as Domestic Violence services in various locations across Oklahoma. While in law school at OU, she clerked for Family Law professor, Dr. Robert G. Spector, as well as the late, Honorable Judge Glenn Dale Carter in the arena of juvenile and family law.
